In early August, there were reports of files regarding business profiles being found in the WhatsApp databases. A few days ago, WhatsApp finally published an FAQ regarding the topic. On the FAQ published onto their website, WhatsApp states providing verification to a few businesses under a program which allows us to identify them with the help of a green check mark beside their name.
This update to the app is available to all Google Play Beta Testers and brings a lot of new features that support Small and Medium Businesses.

According to WABetaInfo, the business profiles have a green check mark beside them. The update also allows businesses to add basic information such as address, email address, social media profile etc.
The app allows small businesses and accounts to be verified so identity theft or scams can be prevented. A small tick mark is present next to the company name to indicate verification.
The update also notifies users about previously verified accounts which are no longer verified. It also notifies about unverified business accounts as well. The update allows the business to set working hours when users will be able to contact them. When the account is not available, companies can choose to send an away message. Businesses can also manage automatic messages.
WhatsApp is developing these features for its new app: “WhatsApp for Small and Medium Businesses”. The app is expected to release late this year. This app is initially expected only to be available on Android. There is no news as of now on an iOS app for the same.
WhatsApp is reportedly working on a UPI integrated money transfer system which increases the functions of the app. With these new features, WhatsApp will hopefully bring a lot of support for Small and Medium Businesses to use WhatsApp for professional communication.
