Android Lollipop has been rolling out (via OTAs or developer files) to quite a few phones and tablets out there, and now Android Wear devices are soon to get their own variant of the latest flavor of the Android operating system i.e. Android Wear Lollipop Update for wearables! The new update is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop and implements API21, and will be available as an OTA in the coming week.
Features of Android Wear Lollipop Update :
1. OFFICIAL WATCH FACE API
The update brings the official watch face API to the wearable game, which enables developers to have much more control on the layout that they wish to create. This in turn would result in more customised and varied watch faces for both users and developers! More details can be found on the official blog here.
2. ENHANCED PLAY STORE SUPPORT
The new update will also bring a new section in the Play Store, from where Android users and developers can submit their unique watch face designs and also download new faces for their watches!
3. INCREASED APPLICATIONS
With the API now being officially available, developers will be finally able to make new applications for the Android Wear platform.
4. NEW WATCH FACES
A plethora of new faces are now being slated for release. These new faces are based on varied themes – popular culture like PacMan, Plants VS Zombies, Despicable Me; to artwork by Hugh Turvey and Craig Ward; and even a face based on Red Bull wallpapers.

5. IMPROVED MOBILE APP
The mobile app comes with a renewed interface too, and users can change their watch faces directly from the Android Wear app. Neat!
6. OS FEATURES
You can now undo accidental card dismissal, bring up recent activities with a tap, access settings by swiping down and easily block notifications from an app. There\’s also easy accessibility to two new modes : Theater Mode, which keeps the screen off and mutes the watch in a dark room, and Sunlight Mode which temporarily boosts the brightness to maximum settings.
All in all, the update will bring quite a few improvements to the Android Wear platform. We\’ll be tracking the happenings as and when they come by, so stay tuned!
