After launching its mid-range Redmi Note 5 lineup in the Indian market, Xiaomi has again come back with its new budget smartphone. Xiaomi on Wednesday has launched Redmi 5 in the Indian market, which was first debuted in China. The company revealed that the Redmi 5 will be available from March 20 via Amazon India, Mi.com and Mi Home stores in the country.
The Redmi 5 smartphone is a successor to last year’s Redmi 4. We can also call this smartphone as a smaller version of Redmi Note 5, which was launched last month in India. The company has released three different variants of Redmi 5 smartphone. Each variant carries a different amount of RAM with different storage options.
Redmi 5 Details:
Design and Display:
The smartphone has a metal unibody design with a rear-mounted fingerprint reader which is common on most of the Redmi devices. The rounded edges of the phone are made of plastic and also has bezels at the top and bottom of the phone. On the screen, you can see 5MP selfie camera, light sensors, and in-call speaker. On the right side of the phone, you will get the power and volume button. Whereas on the left side, a dual nano-SIM tray is found.
The handset sports a 5.7-inch HD+ display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. It has a resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels which is combined with decent viewing angles. It will offer good visibility even when placed under bright sunlight. You also get the 2.5D Gorilla Glass protection on the of a screen.
Like many other Chinese manufacturers, Xiaomi also using a custom UI skin on its Android devices. The phone runs an Android Nougat with MIUI 9. The company says that Redmi 5 will be updated to Android Oreo later in 2018. However, MIUI 9 is the latest UI which is released by Xiaomi. The new MIUI 9 is fully customizable which help users to download new themes to gives the interface a fresh look.
The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 450 Octa-core chipset which is coupled with 2GB,3GB or 4GB of RAM. Though the phone is using a mid-range chip, still the performance of the phone is excellent. The company offers different amount of RAM which will help users to experience a smooth and lag-free performance on their device.
It has Adreno 506 GPU which work pretty well. Also, you can play high graphics games without any lag or heat up issue. Sadly the phone doesn’t include the NFC support, so one can’t make contactless mobile payments using the Android Pay application.
Camera and Battery:
The smartphone has a 12MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture. Due to LED flash on the back, you can capture images and videos in both dark and bright conditions. On the front, it has a 5MP camera with an LED selfie light. Also, the phone many common camera features which include Geo-tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection, HDR, and panorama.
One of the best things about this smartphone is that it comes with a huge battery which is equipped with a Li-Po non-removable 3,300mAh battery. The company claims that it can easily keep the device functioning for 24 hours.
Storage and Connectivity:
For storing your files and other data, the handset gives you three storage options i.e 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. Further, the storage can expand up to 128GB using a microSD card.
Like other Xiaomi phones, the Redmi 5 comes with many connectivity options such as 4G, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, and a micro USB 2.0 port.
Price and Availability:
Xiaomi has released three variants to the Indian market. One which has 2GB RAM and 16GB storage variant will price at Rs. 7,999. While the 3GB RAM and 32GB storage variant will price at Rs. 8,999. Whereas 4GB RAM and 64GB storage variant will price at Rs. 10,999.
The phone will be exclusively available Amazon India, Mi.com and Mi Home stores in flash sales, starting March 20 at 12 pm IST. The Redmi 5 is available in four color option which includes Black, Gold, Light Blue, and Rose Gold.
