It’s been a busy month for smartphone manufacturers, with many big announcements coming our way. Xiaomi today took the covers off its new device – the Mi4i.
At a global launch event that took place in New Delhi, the company unveiled its new phone that packs great features in a very competitive price point. It somehow reminds one of the Mi3 – which had got the ball rolling for them in India in the first place. And priced at Rs. 12,999/-, it does seem like an attractive bargain for people who want more bang for their buck.
In this article, we take a look at all the things this phone has up its sleeve.
The Mi4i is basically a toned down version of its much beefier sibling (and one of the current flagships of the company) – the Mi4. With a design that reminds one of the Mi Pad that was launched in India not so long ago, the company promises flagship grade hardware and software at a very affordable price point.
The display on the Mi4i is a 5 inch full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) one, which has a pixel density of 441 ppi. The company states that it is laminated OGS Sharp/JDI IPS display. It also has a 178 degree wide-viewing angle and an ultra high colour gamut of 95% and protection by Corning.
There’s also a unique feature of a sunlight display technology, which improves screen readability. This feature uses hardware-level tech to adjust contrast for each pixel in real-time. While this is still untested, it would be pretty cool to say the least!
Keeping in tune with the norm of 64-bit processors, the Mi4i has under its hood an octa-core (1.7 GHz x 4 + 1.1 GHz x 4) 2nd Gen Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 64-bit processor.
Again, much akin to the features on the Mi3, the Mi4i comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage, that unfortunately cannot be expanded further.
The main camera is of 13 MP and the front facing camera is of 5 MP resolution. The main camera has an aperture of f/2.0 with a five-element lens. It also has the capability to record 4K videos. The front facing shooter has f/1.8 aperture.
Both these cameras boast of stellar performance in terms of capturing the vividness and sharpness in the image – with new features included in the form of Beautify and a more enhanced HDR feature.
This is where the Mi4i truly proves its mettle for Xiaomi. It comes with Android Lollipop right out of the box, along with MIUI 6 layered over it.
The Mi4i is a dual SIM device, with both SIMs having the capability to support 4G networks.
Powering the phone is a 3,120 mAh battery which will last up to 1.5 days of moderate usage, according to the company.
