Xiaomi Mi5 / Mi5 Plus Leaked Specification and Launch Date

While Xiaomi might have released their ‘global flagship’ device recently in the form of the Mi 4i, a true blue smartphone fanatic would know that Xiaomi could still have a bigger card up their sleeve. And this speculation inevitably points towards the Mi5 which is stated to release this year.

I’ve already covered a few of the leaks in an article a couple of months back, but just recently more concrete leaks (and possibly evidence?) have come in about the new flagship from the Chinese giant. According to sources on the Chinese social media site Weibo, Xiaomi could have not one, but two variants of their flagship launching this year.

Now according to the info received so far through Weibo, the Mi5 will feature a 5.2 inch screen, a 16 MP rear shooter, 3/4GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 810 running the show. Juicing the device would be a 3000 mAh battery. Speculations also suggest that the Mi5 could come with fingerprint ID technology, as seen on Samsung and Apple flagships.

These specs could possibly be legitimate, since as of now, the Snapdragon 810 is a top of the line 64-bit processor, and the current flagship RAM requirements do stand at about 4GB – which is present even on the Mi Note Pro. However, there hasn’t been any official word from the company, so we’ll just wait and watch.

Again, according to the leaks received, there could be a second variant of the Mi5 in the works. Much like the iPhone 6/6 Plus launch strategy, Xiaomi could also be releasing a larger version of its flagship (or would it make the Mi5 a smaller version of the flagship? Food for thought!).

The Mi5 Plus might feature a 6 inch 2K display (much akin to that found on the Nexus 6) with 4GB of RAM, 32 GB of onboard storage and a 16 MP rear camera. If the recent trends are anything to go by, then the Mi5 Plus might even feature a bezel less design as found on many of the flagships from Chinese OEMs.

Going by the previous launch of the Mi4, the Mi5 and/or Mi5 Plus might be launched in July. Then again, we’re relying completely on heresay and speculations in this regard, so a little patience is the key!
