Sensor Tower released data related to apps in its Q1 2019 Data Digest. In their report, Whatsapp becomes the most downloaded app worldwide in the first quarter. Whatsapp has more than 223 million new installations in the first quarter of 2019. On iOS, TikTok beats Whatsapp and becomes the most downloaded app in Q1 2019. TikTok has more than 33 million new installs in the Q1 2019. It retains the top spot for the fifth consecutive time in a row. On the Google Play Store, TikTok came in third place.
According to the reports, four out of the first five apps in the overall most downloaded list are owned by Facebook. The top five apps managed to retain their rankings from the Q4 2018. As mentioned above, Whatsapp came in first place with more than 223 million installs. With more than 209 million installs, Facebook Messenger is in second place. Followed by TikTok in third place, Facebook and Instagram are in fourth and fifth place respectively.
The other apps included in the Top 20 list of most downloads worldwide are ShareIt, YouTube, Like Video, Netflix, Snapchat, Spotify, Hotstar, Uber, Twitter, and Amazon. Video editing app Biugo and photo editing app PicsArt entered the list of Top 20 downloaded apps for the first time in Q1 2019. Sensor Tower in their report said that it is because first-time users in India helped both apps achieve new install highs in the quarter. YouTube Kids had 29 million downloads in this quarter from Google Play Store. The app received growth of 291 percent quarter over quarter.
Coming to App Store, TikTok is the most installed app for the consecutive fifth quarter with more than 33 million downloads. YouTube, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger take the respectively next top 4 places in the list. Sensor Tower in their report said that Twitter had 11.7 million App Store downloads in Q1. It is their highest total since Q1 2015. Twitter managed to take the 16th spot in the list.
