Mi has had a great year lately, with its valuations reaching new pinnacles. They’ve now revealed their new device for 2015 – the Redmi 2.
The Redmi 2 – successor to the Redmi 1S – was unveiled on Jan 4th, 2015. It comes in the same physical form factor as its predecessor, but offers a 64-bit architecture CPU as well. There are a few aesthetic changes too, but in all essence this phone is pretty much akin to the 1S.
SPECIFICATIONS OF THE REDMI 2
- 4.7″ IPS display, 1280×720 resolution, 312 PPI
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 Quadcore 64-bit 1.2 GHz processor (MSM8916)
- Dual-SIM with 2 card-slots, with dual standby. There’s support for dual 4G LTE (TDD/ FDD), with connection speeds of up to 150 Mbps
- 1GB RAM, 8GB flash memory (can be extended to 32GB)
- Cortex A53 structure, 1.5 times faster than A7
- Adreno 306 GPU
- 2200 mAh Samsung Lithium polymer battery
- 8 mega pixel rear camera, 2 mega pixel facing camera
- 133 grams, 9.4 mm thick
- 5 colors for back cover
- MIUI 6 over Android 4.4.4 KitKat
There isn’t much difference with the Redmi 1S, except in the CPU architecture, the version of MIUI and the position of the camera flash. The phone also comes with various colours for the back panel, which can be considered as an aesthetic improvement over the 1S.
The main advantage though is the support for 4G networks, which will undoubtedly offer higher speeds of connectivity.
PRICING AND AVAILABILITY
The Redmi 2 has been stated to be priced at 699 RMB – approximately $113 and INR 7124/- . It is said to go on sale on 9th January, 2015 and hopefully should make its way to Indian shores soon.
In other Mi related news, a leaked poster gives us a glimpse at what the flagship device from the company for 2015 might look like. The MI4S has razor thin bezels which might give devices like the Meizu MX4 Pro a run for their money – at least in the design department.
The poster states that the phone has the fastest processor, thinnest bezels, best display and the most powerful camera in the world. As of now, the specifications haven’t been revealed officially, so let’s take this poster with a pinch of salt.
However, I expect it to come with 3GB of RAM, a Snapdragon 805/810 processor and a 5.5/5.7 inch display with 2K resolution. Do note, this is just mere speculation based on flagship specifications for phones this year.
Anxious for the release of this flagship from China’s juggernaut? Fret not, Mi’s president Lei Jun has confirmed that their flagship will be officially unveiled later this month, so a little patience is the key in this regard!
