Hike Messenger Launches Hike ID, Lets Users Chat Without Sharing Their Mobile Number

Hike Messenger is India’s first Homegrown messaging platform. Hike announced the launch of a new feature called Hike ID. The Hike ID comes with a unique identity which allows the user, to chat on the platform without sharing their mobile number. The new feature will first roll out to Android users within the next week.

Pathik Shah, Vice President, Product at Hike, said in a statement, “Privacy is at the center of everything we do at Hike. ‘Hike ID’ is the next step for us to make this value proposition even stronger by enabling easier discovery and control while connecting with others.”

The company said, it makes easier to search for someone with simply typing their Hike ID. So you don’t need to go through the long process of saving friend’s number before being able to send a message. Android users can create and share their Hike ID from next week itself.

According to report, Hike had done a survey of over 1 million users. So 69 percent users said that they like to talk to people without sharing their phone numbers first. Were over 72 percent said that they want to skip the process of saving someone’s number before talking to them. Therefore Hike introduced the new service called Hike ID as the solution to this. It makes very easy and secure for users to chat with people without having to share/save their phone numbers.

Such phone number masking feature has already seen on BBM and Telegram. The BBM service used a PIN as a unique identifier for users to connect to each other. While Telegram users can share their usernames to chat with people who do not have their phone numbers.

Additionally, Hike is planning to add more services like cab bookings, bus, train, movie tickets and pay bills. This service will come in the first quarter of 2018. The Hike Messenger was launch in 2012 and has over 100 million users base on its platform. Recently, Hike introduced some features which include the ability to vote, split bills, create checklists, schedule events with reminders, and even play Teen Patti.
