Snapchat Introduces New Geofilters Feature

by Abhishek VoheraJuly 15, 2014

Snapchat have added a new feature called Geofilters which will offer special filters based on your location. This geofilter feature of Snapchat will give you new stickers when you visit specific places in Los Angeles and New York. All you need to activate the geofilters is just to swipe right from the display screen after you take a photo, and you will receive a text or graphic sticker overlaid on your snap.

Snapchat adds Geofilters

Snapchat have also said that they don’t store the location of the user, they just use the location to show the text or graphic sticker and add the amazing geofilters. This new feature of the Snapchat will help them to compete the newly launched Slingshot application by Facebook, which was made with the intention to take away users from the Snapchat.

The new feature is believed as a potential revenue source for Snapchat, however one of the geofilters featured in the promo video below shows Disneyland and features some heavy theme park brand promotion.  If event organizers want to promote their next concert or festival, there’s an opportunity to connect with Snapchat and facilitate users with some one-of-a-kind photo filters.

Snapchat have posted a blog-post – ” We’ve had a lot of fun drawing up new filters for special locations in Los Angeles and New York. Swipe right on the preview screen to check them out – they’ll change depending on which neighborhoods you’re in! Although you’ll need to enable location services for this feature, we don’t store your location. “
