Xolo Q2000 : Review, Specifications, Price, Features And Verdict

by deepDecember 25, 2013

Xolo, which is recently the most talked-about Indian handset brand, launched its new smartphone or rather phablet, the Xolo Q2000, which so far features the company’s biggest screen on a smartphone. The company had already launched the Q1000 and the Q1000S with a 5-inch HD display, but the XOLO Q2000 comes with a 5.5-inch 720p display and a completely new design. The phone promises to offer not only decent hardware specifications but also all the features of a modern phablet at an economy price point. Is it good enough to compete with the Samsung’s phablets? We try to find out in our review.

Key Features of  Xolo Q2000 are as follows:

  • Display : 5.5 inches 720 pixels
  • Processor : Quad Core 1.2 GHz
  • RAM : 1GB
  • Internal Storage : 8GB inbuilt memory which is expandable by up to 32GB
  • Android Version : 4.2 (Jelly Bean)
  • Camera : 13MP / 2MP
  • Battery’s capacity : 2600 mAh

Xolo has recently launched the Xolo Q2000 with a 5.5-inch display in the mid-range price segment and is one of the first to do so. The Xolo Q2000 offers a 5.5-inch IPS display with a 720×1280 pixel resolution. It features a pixel density of 267ppi. The phone’s panel supports a 5-point multi-touch. The viewing angles of the Xolo Q2000’s display are sharp and looked good. The brightness of the phone also looked optimum. The outdoor visibility remains well above average although the screen is reflective which makes it a bit difficult to see under direct sunlight. The display boasts a decent resolution, but at times it looks pixelated, may be due to the bigger screen size which results in less number of pixels per inch.  One fact to be acknowledged is that the Android buttons for home, menu and back are present below the display and not on the screen unlike other phablets — this characteristic gives you the entire screen for your use. The fact that the onscreen keyboard is larger than the ones found on most phones has to be appreciated — larger keys make it that much easier to type. Although, one issue with the phone that we came across was its inconsistency in touch sensitivity. A number of times, the onscreen keyboard failed to register key-strokes.

Body :

The Xolo  Q2000 is a  plain black  slab with a utilitarian design, which doesn’t evoke any emotion. The un-rounded corners on the rectangular phone give it a pretty sharp look. The mattle finish on the removable back panel  is a feather on the device’s aesthetic look. Under the cover you find  the 2600 mAh removable battery, dual SIM slots and a microSD slot that supports up to 32GB cards. However, the weight of the device i.e 180 grams, makes  the device fairly bulky to carry around.

The front of the Xolo Q2000 :

  • A majestic 5.5-inch IPS (In-plane switching) display,
  • The 3 capacitive touch buttons for navigating around the phone’s interface,
  •  The sensor array and the front-camera lens,
  •  The bottom creates a small chin-like extension and is enclosed in a plastic frame.

The Glossy edges of the Xolo Q2000 :

  • The right edge of the Xolo Q2000 features the Power/ Screen lock key,
  • The left edge houses the volume rocker
  • The top edge sports the Micro-USB port and the 3.5mm headset jack.

The back of the Xolo Q2000 :

  • A thin plastic cover hiding the battery compartment which holds the battery
  • SIM card and microSD card slots.
  • The cover boasts a matte finish, and is a bit flimsy in contrast to the otherwise sturdy-build of the phone.
  • A rectangular strip, made out of the same material that we’ve seen on the edges protrudes out, right at the top and features the rear camera lens.

Sound :

The phone supports the following music and video formats:
Music : MP3, MIDI, 3GPP, AMR-NB, Wav, WMA, AAC
Video : MPEG4, H263, H.264, Div X, MP4, MPG
The phone played full-HD clips smoothly and the it supported formats like .AVI and .MOV, natively. The speaker delivers a pretty decent quality sound at high volume levels, but there are some problems when the phone lies on its back, since the speaker grill is located on its back. The phone offers FM Radio and the headphones that come with the phone offer average performance.

Camera :

The Xolo Q2000 has a 13-megapixel autofocus shooter that captures fantabulous images in daylight, though we did find them to be a little grainy sometimes. The camera uses BSI2 sensor for better low light images; still the overall quality of the image is average. In low light, the LED flash helps, but has a tendency to overexpose close subjects. There is also a quite noticable shutter lag — which is the time taken to save an image after you press the shutter button.

However, the camera offers a beautiful video-recording experience. It records full HD videos at 30fps. It also offers Electronic Image Stabilisation which minimises the distortions caused by shaking of hands while shooting a video. The video quality is great with rich colours and clear audio. The 2-megapixel front facing camera on the phone also captures decent quality shots when the lighting conditions are good enough and is great for video calls.

There is an in-built customised Camera app available in the phone that allows you to capture photos in different modes like the HDR, ‘face beauty’ mode, Panorama modes, ‘auto-scene detection’, and ‘best shot’ modes in addition to an EV bracket mode which facilitates clicking multiple exposure photos. The Xolo Q2000’s camera also supports continuous shots taking up to 40 shots in that mode, face detection and smile detection.

Processor, Battery And Software :

The Xolo Q2000 is powered by a 1.2GHz (Mediatek MT6589) quad-core processor. It consists of 1GB RAM onboard, PowerVR SGX 544MP chip for processing graphics, 8GB of internal storage(expandable up to 32GB via a microSD card). The Xolo Q2000 runs Android 4.2.1, Jelly Bean. The overall experience of navigation through the interface was quite impressive, all thanks to the phone’s quad-core processor. There was no experience of any lag while launching apps, scrolling web pages or switching between apps , even with more than 5 apps running in the background. The Xolo Q2000 comes with a 2600 mAh battery and With regular usage of the phone, we were able to get a battery backup of slightly over a day.

Pricing :

If you are hunting for a large screen device which offers good performance with a restricted budget, then the Xolo Q2000 proves to be a good deal. Its available for  Rs.14,999. On e-commerce sites such as you may also get it at a discounted price.

Verdict :

If you don’t want a big hole in your pockets and a phone that’s solid and elegant;
–          Xolo Q2000 is the answer.
