There were lots of rumors saying that it would be possibly bringing the S5 with a 2K QHD display – that would have been a dizzying 560ppi for screen as small as five inches but it’s not. The S5 has a 5.1 inches Super AMOLED Full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and has a pixel density of 431ppi. Screen is sharper than the human eye could see. The color reproduction does seem to be more impressive on the Samsung Galaxy S5, however, with movies looking much better on the device and is IP67 Dust and Water Resistant.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 is nearly 6mm taller and 3mm wider than the S4, it’s even a little thicker. So the device is more or less the same from the front but the changes are all from the back. The plastic back still has the leather texture but goes after the perforated leather look and there’s no stitching. This makes it more like a plastic back rather than a leather back. The material does feels good. The phone feels good and sturdy in hands. The S5 has a ‘metal’ surround which is almost identical to the Note 3 and the home key now can scan your finger prints.
The S4 had a 13 MP camera which took very decent images now the S5 moves on to a 16MP snapper. The Samsung Galaxy S5 features a 16MP camera with a 16:9 sensor which means you can take full resolution pictures with a 16:9 ratio size of 5312 x 2988 pixels. It shoots 4K videos at 30fps and there’s a whole host of image functionality new in the Galaxy S5 this includes video stabilization similar to the LG G2. HDR and selective focus mode is improved highly in the device.
The new focus mode is much like Nokia’s Refocus Lens, in which you can change the depth of field on an image after it’s taken. Samsung said that the flagship Smartphone will feature a new Reflector integrated flash LED. So what does that actually mean? Well Samsung claims it will allow for a wider field of view, better daylight and nighttime photos and it will ensure everyone in a photo is illuminated by the flash. The camera of the device is able to do 4K UHD video. That’s 3840 x 2160 video at 30fps. IT also has a 2MP front facing camera which is capable of doing full HD video recording.
The Sound from the device was crisp loud and clear. Audio output was quite good. We did not found major difference between the sound of the S4 and The new Galaxy S5. Watching movies was quite a good experience. The Speaker grill is located at the bottom left of the back panel.
Processor, software and battery
While the S4 runs on the Exynos 5 Octa 5410 chipset the S5 run on the new Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 which is clocked at Quad-Core 2.5 GHz and has a powerful Adreno 330 Graphic processing unit for high-end gaming. The device runs on Android 4.4.2 (KitKat). The device comes with an option of 16 and 32 GB and also has a Micro SD card slot for expansion. So the S5 has certain new feature like the Heart rate monitor, Finger print scanner, humidity sensor, temperature sensor and much more. The finger print scanner is the one that catches our eye. So the home key is now also a Finger print scanner. The accurate scanner that works when you wake the phone – an extra step Apple doesn’t make you go through – and scan you finger down from the screen to the bottom of the home key.
The UI is also little pumped up We have got a brand new flat version of Samsung’s custom UI TouchWiz. The S5 is also equipped with an IR remote, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 BLE/ANT+, Cat 4 LTE (up to 150Mbps down/50Mbps up) and your choice of 16GB or 32GB of internal storage oddly 64GB doesn’t appear to be an option, though you can add up to 128GB via a micro SD card if needed. The S5 is backed up with 2800mAh Li-Ion battery. There is also a feature called Ultra Power Saving Mode which will turns the display to black and white, and shuts down all unnecessary features to minimize the battery consumption. So the S5 has enough new hardware that can have your day. The phone is slightly chunkier than last year’s Galaxy S4, measuring in at 8.1mm thick and tipping the scales at 145g.
Samsung is yet to announce how much the Samsung Galaxy S5 will cost when it goes on sale. However, UK retailer Unlocked-mobiles has promptly started taking pre-orders for the 16 GB Galaxy S5 models, which it has priced at £599.98. There is no word yet on pricing for the higher-capacity 32GB mode. Expected price in India Rs 47,000 – 49,990.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 is a flagship device that continues the legacy of its predecessors. The device is loaded with features which recreate the benchmarks for what a Smartphone can do. The waterproof and dust-proof features make the device even better and safer.
