Lately, the Indian smartphone market has been abuzz with Chinese players making their presence felt. We’ve already had Lenovo, Xiaomi, Gionee and OnePlus take the country by storm, and recently we also saw the entry of Meizu and Nubia into the Indian market.
Another Chinese brand, Phicomm, made its way into the Indian market with a very powerful budget offering which might prove to be a worthy competitor to phones like the Mi 4i. Here’s an overview of the debut phone from Phicomm: The P660 Passion smartphone.
The display is what you would expect of a typical good mid-ranger device. 5 inches of IPS display, with a healthy Full HD resolution and a pixel density of 441ppi : which is quite good considering the price at which this device is being offered at.
The processor is something that we have seen in quite a few devices lately. The octa core, 64-bit Snapdragon 615 chipset is that present on the Yureka and the Mi 4i, among a few others.
2 GB of RAM, which is the typical standard evidently being sent in the sub 15k price point. The P660 Passion has 16 GB of onboard storage which can be further expanded to upto 64 GB using a Micro SD card.
The rear shooter is a 13 Megapixel camera with a Sony sensor, and the front one is a 5 MP camera with a BSI sensor inbuilt.
The battery is a decent 2300 mAh one. Its main capabilities have yet to be tested, so we can’t comment on the standby life yet.
The Phicomm P660 Passion runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat, with the company’s proprietary OS Expect OS 5.0 layered on top of it.
PRICING AND COMPETITION
The Phicomm P660 Passion is priced at Rs. 10,999 /-, and at this price bracket, it faces competition from devices such as the Yu Yureka and the Mi 4i. It surely packs a punch, considering the specs it offers. This budget is becoming more and more exciting, and it’ll be interesting to see the response of Mi and other brands to these new developments!
